Welcome! I’m Kyle McGuire, the human behind TBW. Once upon a time in July 2018, I came across some 100 year old floorboards, and decided to build a table, mostly to see if I could. I‘ve been addicted ever since.

Even after a tree dies, its wood still has a life to live — every knot, every grain, a little bit of stubborn beauty. I try to listen to it, shape it, and occasionally argue with it. Inspiration comes from everywhere: old buildings, distant planets, bird feathers, geological formations — anything with a good story and a beautiful shape.

My style is simple, natural, and quietly stubborn against trends. Each piece I make carries a little bit of myself in it — my focus, my curiosity, my experience, my joy for woodworking. My goal is to be present and genuine with every project and person I work with. To be True Blue.

Before carpentry, I worked as a forest ranger, a wildland firefighter, a ski instructor, and a tree farmer. I didn’t know it then, but apparently I just wanted to be close to wood. I’ve lived and worked all over the western US, and now live in Colorado Springs with my wife, our dog, our cat, and our flock of ducks.
